  1. HOME CARE IS MORE THAN JUST CARE IT'S LOVING COMPANIONSHIP

  2. HOME CARE IS MORE THAN JUST CARE There is a lot of emphasis put on physical activity as we age, but no one really talks about the impact a healthy social life has on our health. You need social interactions as much as you need exercise to maintain your quality of life. Aged adults who let their social connections slip away as they grow older are more at risk for depression and dementia. This has been proven in numerous studies, such as a 2011 study that found socially active elderly adults have a slower rate of health decline than their peers who become socially isolated. THE RELATIONSHIP COMPONENT OF HOME CARE Just as important as the care you or a loved one receives at home is the nature of the relationship with the caregiver. This is why My Guardian is so particular about matching carers with clients. We match similar personalities and interests because we've found this helps deepen the connection between you and your carer. In fact, we know we've succeeded when our carers and their charges become close friends or even like family. My Guardian's carers offer more than home care. They offer loving companionship. The social interaction between you and your carer not only helps you remain independent in your own home for much longer, but it helps stave off physical and mental declines.

  3. HOME CARE IS MORE THAN JUST CARE TRANSPORTATION & RECREATION SERVICES In addition, My Guardian makes sure you stay active outside your home. If you want to volunteer several times a week at the library or hospital, we provide safe transportation to and from your volunteer activities. You can join a club of like-minded people who share your interests, and My Guardian will help you get to your club meetings each and every time. Or if you want to attend religious services, we can provide the transportation. We'll even go on vacation with you so you can get out and visit family or meet new friends. There are a wide range of ways your My Guardian companion can keep you socially, physically, and emotionally engaged with others. A MY GUARDIAN SUCCESS STORY Annette was trained as a classical pianist before realizing her passion for aged care. She finds offering companionship and care to those of any age and any abilities rewarding. "This has been an amazing journey of love and compassion," said Annette when discussing her relationship with Maggie. Annette first met Maggie 8 years ago when she transitioned home from hospital after a minor surgery. Then, Maggie's husband went into residential care, and she needed a little help around the house.

  4. HOME CARE IS MORE THAN JUST CARE A MY GUARDIAN SUCCESS STORY They found a shared love of reading and spent long hours discussing their favourite books. In addition, Maggie had a piano, and Annette would give impromptu concerts, much to Maggie's delight. Annette would even drop by on her days off to leave a homemade cake or other treat for Maggie. When Maggie passed away, Annette met with Maggie's family. Maggie's daughter, Leigh, said that the last 8 years of her life, Maggie was in the best hands. "I knew Mum was being loved and cared for as I would have. Annette and Mum were incredibly fond of each other. I must say, she's more like family now." Annette explains her approach to caring. "You're invited into someone's life to get to know them and what they want and need. You can't find that information anywhere else; you have to get to know them individually. When you serve someone else in this capacity, it's inevitable that you become good friends."
