At around the same time as the Colonial Pipeline Company cyberattack, hacker group DarkSide targeted German chemicals distribution company Brenntag. DarkSide would have needed $ 7.5 million, or 133.65 bitcoins, to access 150 GB of data. In addition, DarkSide shared a data leak page that consisted of a description of the data stolen and screenshots of some files to prove their claims. The ransom was negotiated and Brenntag eventually paid $ 4.4 million.

Brenntag Brenntag was hit with a DarkSide ransomware attack around the same time as Colonial Pipeline in May 2021. Which attack resulted in 150 GB of stolen sensitive data. Darkside's initial demand was 133.65 Bitcoin or about $7.5 million - which would have been the largest ever payment. Through negotiations, Brenntag was able to lower the ransom to 44.4 million, which they paid.

However, Kia denied being attacked.
