  3. Understanding Consumer Court and Its Objectives: • A Consumer Court is a legal body mainly formed to resolve customer problems and grievances. Therefore, you feel that you have been cheated or scammed by a product or service provider, you can file a case and fight for your rights. It is also important for you to understand that Consumer Court never works for a particular field or individual sector. These legal systems help the customers to file complaint against assorted sectors. The process of filing a complaint in the Consumer Court is quite simple when compared to other legal systems. These are The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum. If the amount is more than one crore, you have to file the complaint in National level court. On the other hand, for amount more than twenty lakhs but less than one crore should be consulted with State level court. If the amount involved is less than twenty lakhs, the consumers should file the complaint in District level court.

You have the rights to file a complaint against any seller, dealer or manufacturer who is engaged in any type of unfair or unethical practices. However, before filing the complaint in the court, it is important to send a notice to the company or service provider regarding the problem. If they fail to respond within the given time, you can proceed to the court.

  6. The customer can file a written complaint in a plain paper. The complaint should involve details about the product or service and the issue. It is also important to attach the copies of supporting documents like cash memos, receipts, bills or warranty card along with the complaint. As the court will allow you to represent the case, you do not even have to worry about hiring an attorney.
