  1. 5 Tips to Prepare for Your Tooth Extraction Procedure

  2. Tooth Extraction Procedure • If you're having a tooth extracted for the first time, you may be wondering about what you can expect from the procedure and how you should prepare for it. Chances are this is also the first surgery that you will ever undergo so it's natural to feel a little anxious.  • So, what type of surgery are you having? It's important to discuss this with your dentist so you can also prepare properly. This information will also help you decide which sedation to choose. • If it's a wisdom tooth extraction, for instance, the procedure may take longer and may need a stronger sedative.

  3. In the meantime, Here are Some Tips to Help You Prepare for your Tooth Extraction Procedure

  4. Prepare a Questionnaire • Before your dental visit, prepare a list of questions to ask your dentist. • You will be discussing your upcoming dental extraction, so you may have a lot of things in your mind. No question is too silly, so just write them down and bring your list with you. • You might forget to bring up your biggest concerns so don't let them float in the air.

  5. Share Your Medical History • Your dentist will need your complete medical history. Don't leave any details out. • Share information as well about your current medications to avoid any issues with the drugs you'll be administered. • Your dentist may also ask you to refrain from taking certain medications as they may interfere with the procedure. Blood thinners, for example, may delay your recovery.

  6. Discuss Sedation and Anesthesia • Find out which medications you'll be given for your procedure. • If you are allergic to any painkiller or substance, let your dentist know as soon as possible. • They may need to prescribe another medicine for you or come up with a medication plan to ensure your safety and comfort.

  7. Refrain From Eating • You will also need to avoid eating anything before your surgery. You will be provided further instructions on which food and beverages you can only take once your extraction has been completed. • However, let your dental team know if you have an existing medical condition that prohibits fasting. • It is also best to avoid smoking before and after your surgery as this can cause complications and drag the healing process.

  8. Arrange Transportation And Home Care • Get a family member or someone you trust to take you to the dental office and also drive you back home. It also helps to prepare meals in advance and complete errands before your procedure. • You'll want to take the time to rest so it will be convenient to have soft foods ready for you to eat. • Heavy lifting and other strenuous physical activities are also not allowed so it helps to have someone help you at home, especially if you have little kids.
