  1. Lead in EP WorkshopsStatus Report Evelyne Dho /

  2. Reminder … • Lead campaign started in 2016, this subject has already been presented to the TSOs meeting in 2017. • 2 years were needed to implement an EP Safety procedure https://edms.cern.ch/document/1816068/4«Control, handling, transport and storage of lead» based on the HSE Safety Guideline https://edms.cern.ch/document/1050102/4. This procedure is not frozen, do not hesitate to give us your comments! Evelyne Dho /

  3. EP-TH Safety Procedure • This document defines the procedure to be used if you have any unused lead in your workshops (control, packing, transport and storage for EP Department) • Beforeanyremoval, lead radioactivity must bemeasured by RP, • Packing, transport and storagecanbedonewith the help of EP-AGS-SI, • PPE are mandatory(details are provided in the procedure). • We are stillworking on painting… Evelyne Dho /

  4. … PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) • Protective gloves • Mask FFP3 • Safety shoes and cover shoes • Tyvekcoveralls Evelyne Dho /

  5. Work plan for all workshops • Inventory and classification of workshops • Surface samplings by IST Lab. (< 10 mg/m2 lead operational area and < 1mg/m2 for non-lead operational area). • Cleaning (5 days needed by workshop) • Done (If not contacted, please let us know) • On going (done in 28-S-009, 169-S-018 and 892-R-C01) • On going (done in 28-S-009) Evelyne Dho /

  6. Work Plan for Lead Workshops (based on sampling analysis) • Sampling • Cleaning (logically needed …) • New requirements to be discussed: • Analysis of the working method in order to avoid further pollution (to be discussed with HSE) • Training for good behaviour in a lead area • Work clothing only – Cleaning, how to proceed ? • Access system : Authorized persons only • Declaration of professional risks (contact with lead), the medical service will decide whether or not to follow up • Workshop cleaning maintenance (on long term) Evelyne Dho /

  7. Work Plan for non Lead Workshops (based on sampling analysis) • Sampling • Cleaning based on sampling results • New requirements to be discussed: • No more lead to bring in these cleaned workshops (Information panel: NO LEAD) • If real necessity to use lead, please inform EP Safety Office in order to adopt a safe procedure • Workshop cleaning maintenance (on long term) Evelyne Dho /

  8. You will be contacted for sampling collection (+/- 10 workshops) • Cleaning will be done when needed, • New behaviour, awareness … The lead collect campaign is still on going, please contact your TSO and the EP safety office when you find lead. Evelyne Dho /

  9. QUESTIONS ?

  10. PoLiChem Inventory in EP (POllution by LIquidCHEMical agents)In 2015, Management requested the creation of a working group composed of representatives from HSE, EP, SMB, TE, BE and EN to identify and assess the chemical risks generated by CERN. This inventory is our official reference document for the CERN Department Leaders and top management. It is a way to identify the risks and also to request funds for hazard mitigations. Evelyne Dho /

  11. PoLiChem inventory in EP Do you have any chemical products which have not been inventoried ? • From 20 L. upwards for this symbol • From 100 L. upwards for the other chemical products Evelyne Dho /

  12. PoLiChem • Inventory on-going, still missing answers • From received answers (thanks to you!): • Changes • No change (stock turnover or non-use ?) • New products should be inventoried • The inventory concerns the on-going year (2018) This inventory is our reference document for the official authorities, please fill in carefully / with attention Evelyne Dho /
