  3. Other Rewards! • There will be additional rewards during the year to recognize students with no late work and no minors. • Examples: • Donut Party • Pizza Party • Recess

  4. Recognition • Every month, the teachers on the gold pod will meet to discuss students who have been respectful, responsible, hard-working, caring, and honest. A small group of students will then be chosen as “Students of the Month.” We will celebrate these students during advisory on the last Friday of each month. • Students will receive a booklet of coupons. • Students will get their picture taken and posted in the pod. • Students’ families will be notified.

  5. Random Acts of Kindness Box • There is a box in the back of Mr. Langel’s classroom. If you want to recognize a peer for their act of kindness (asking you to sit with him/her at lunch, helping you study for your math assessment, etc.), please write their name and their act of kindness on a slip of paper and drop it into the box. • Some of these acts of kindness slips will be pulled out of the box and shared during Student of the Month Awards.

  6. Classroom Expectations • Getting to class • Need to be IN room if you don’t want to be tardy and receive a minor. • Leaving Room • Sign out by door • Be responsible • No minor for using restroom, but you will not be allowed to leave the same class every day. Be responsible. • You must have your planner with you (pass filled out) when going to the bathroom/drink/office/nurse/library/etc. • Materials • You need to come to all classes prepared. This includes having a pencil. There will be consequences for continuing to forget materials. Continuously having missing materials= minor.

  7. Pod Expectations • The pod is for quiet work time. NO study hall students should be in the pod (this will be communicated with Mr. Weaver). • If you are in the pod for a class, focus on your work. • When you are meeting with a small group and need to talk, you should talk quietly. • You should not roll in the chairs. • You should not look in other classrooms. • You should not talk to peers who are walking through the pod. • If you are walking through the pod, go from Point A to Point B and don’t talk to or bother anyone. • All chairs and desks should be put back before you leave the pod.

  8. Pod Expectations (continued) • No materials should be left on tables. • At lunch • After school • Passing time • Shuttle Bus Students • Will sit down, talk quietly, and push in chairs before they leave. All gold students should stay up in this pod if you’re shuttle bus. You will not leave the pod. If you are a walker, head downstairs immediately. You should not be loitering in the pod or hallways. • Lost and Found • NONE: Be responsible and keep your items IN YOUR LOCKER.

  9. Study Hall Expectations • Most times, the classroom teacher is not in the room, so students should not be using their materials (markers, tape, pens, pencils, etc.) • Students should not be opening drawers, cabinets, etc. for any reason. • White board markers should not be used. Whiteboards should not be marked on. • Desks should not be marked on. • Study hall is for studying and reading. It should be a quiet work time. • The room should look the same as it did when you entered.

  10. PBIS Reminders • You should NOT run in the halls or in the pod. This is also an expectation when going to and returning from lunch. Running in the halls is a minor. • Chewing gum is a MINOR. • If you receive 3 minors in the same quarter, you earn a detention. These could be in the same class or 3 different classes. • South Middle School uses a behavior plan for disrespectful and disruptive behaviors (Word Document).

  11. Late Work • Late work: will often be entered as “ID” (insufficient data) in Powerschool. • This work must still be made up in order to move onto next activities. • Consequences: • Will not attend that Friday’s social during advisory • Will work on late work in study hall • May need to revisit class you are behind in • May need to stay after school • May serve lunch detentions for work time
