  2. Council Achievements • Established IEEE Sensors Journal • Established IEEE SENSORS Conference • Initiated IEEE Committee on Earth Observation

  3. Plans • Strengthen the Administrative Committee by personal liaison with Presidents of Member Societies • Develop cooperative projects with groups of Societies

  4. TAB Society Review • Intended to encourage Societies and Councils to conduct detailed examination • Sensors Council reviewed February 2004 • Sensors Journal also reviewed

  5. Suggestions for the Sensors Council (1) • Advise all 26 sponsoring Societies that their participation is required in order for Sensors to be viable • Direct involvement in development of chapters and technical activities • Select conference treasurers that have experience and are aware of past problems • Sensors Journal administration should work closely with Laura Pohl on desired pricing and page count

  6. Suggestions for the Sensors Council (2) • Involvement by the Council in related Standards groups is urged • Is the Sensors Council on-line tutorial program sufficient educational activity? • What other means of recognition beyond the “Best Student Paper” exist or are planned?

  7. How Shall We Respond? • Activities with Member Societies • Chapter involvement • Standards activities • Education • Awards

  8. What Else Should We Do? • More volunteers are the key to improved and expanded activities to serve society, our profession, and our community • How shall we change?

  9. Ideas From AdCom Meeting 1 • Student fellowships • Committee • Threshold • Connection with Conference Student Paper Contest (Publicity)

  10. Ideas From AdCom Meeting 2 • Increase Web presence • Develop relationship with major sensor research groups • Source of papers • Source of AdCom members • Source of cooperative project ideas • Opportunities to be technical co-sponsor

  11. Ideas From AdCom Meeting 3 • VP-M needs to write conference guidelines and get them approved (guidelines are not laws) • We need to review all conferences and understand where we can contribute

  12. Ideas From AdCom Meeting 4 • Review S04 contractor bids • Progression of conference site selection: • Promising venue • Site visits? • Detailed proposal • Accepted conference

  13. Ideas From AdCom Meeting 5 • Discuss shape of Distinguished Lecturer program, develop detailed guidelines • Gather information on Society practice • Active or passive approach • Single or multiple lecturers in the visit • Look for industry sponsor • Standards Committee could • Review activities of member societies • Coordinate as appropriate • Initiate Standards activity where needed
