  4. A Pipeline of Promise: The Dental Pipeline

  5. 18 months (~2 years) of funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation • Will demonstrate the ability to spread and apply the lessons from the National and California Pipeline programs and continue and spread national impact

  6. Partnership • The University of the Pacific School of Dentistry • The American Dental Education Association • The California Primary Care Association • The National Network for Oral Health Access • Advisors from 13 national organizations representing community education and diversity

Structure • National Advisory Committee • advise the project on: • design elements of the program, and • long- and short-term policy implications of the project • Faculty from dental education, community clinics and minority focused organizations • Dental school/community partnership teams • Intensive learning experiences • Year long project

Structure (continued) Structure: year long program • 10 dental school/community partner teams • 3 day intensive in-person session at the University of the Pacific – October 15-17, 2012 • On-line learning modules, live webinars • One year project involving the school and community partner with oral health impact • Final project presentation at Fall ADEA meeting – October 2013

  9. Structure (continued) • Curriculum areas • Pipeline principles • Financial implications • Building and running CBDE programs • Recruiting and supporting a diverse dental student population • Leadership, advocacy and change management

  10. Goal/Evaluation • Ability of partnership members to create and carry out a meaningful program project with impact on oral health of underserved populations

  11. Financial Support • Travel and lodging support for 3 day in-person intensive session for one dental school and one community partner representative • Support for partnership project ~ $12000 • Release time and other resources to be provided by home institutions

Eligibility Criteria • Applicants must include a partner team (U.S. dental school + community organization) • Co-leaders who can effectively implement proposed project • Co-leaders with position and authority to effect institutional change • Ability to participate in all Learning Institute activities • Preference to schools that did not participate in the previous Pipeline programs
