  3. Life takes a sudden change! 606 BC From the kings court to a captive walking to Babylon. How could this happen? 2 Kings24:12 And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes …14 And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes …

Why two languages? • The book of Daniel is written in both Hebrew and Aramaic (or Chaldee). • Daniel 2:4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation. Or Aramaic through 7:28 (Aramic) The focus is no longer Israel but Babylon and thekingdoms of men.

Why the book of Daniel is tough on the Bible critic! • Linguistic evidence as verified by experts show it was written long before Christ. • Many prophecies in Daniel take place well after it can be shown the book was written. • The Dead Sea scrolls give hard evidence Daniel was written well before Christ.

The book of Daniel is tough on the Bible critic! • The Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in 1947 contain fragments of the book of Daniel. • Every book of the O.T. contain at least fragments but the book of Esther. • Their dating is thought to date back to at least 150 B.C. • Carbon 14 tests which dates the hunks of linen wrapped around the scrolls at about 33 A.D. plus or minus two centuries.

  7. A MAJOR ASSUMPTION IS MADE THAT THE EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE HAS REMAINED THE SAME. • POTASSIUM TO ARGON DOESN’T NEED TO MAKE THIS ASSUMPTION. Carbon 14 is produced by cosmic radiation colliding with nitrogen atoms. Living things absorb carbon 14 but the process stops when the organism dies. Carbon 14 is radioactive with 5700 year half life.

Daniel1:6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: • Daniel had Christadelphian room-mates. What if it is not possible to have a Christadelphian room mate? • Seek out and rent a room in a Christadelphian home. If notpossible go to another university.

What principle is involved in naming? • Daniel1:7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego. The principle of Authority • Belteshazzar = Keeper of the hid treasures of Bel • Shadrach = Inspiration of the sun • Meshach = He who belongs to Shaca (Venus) • Abednego = The servant of Nego (god of vegetation)

Daniel1:6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: • Good idea for having a good mentor helps. • Daniel = God is my judge • Hananiah = God has been gracious • Mishael = Who is what God is • Azariah = Helped of God • Why do we remember the Gentile names for Daniel’s friends and not the Hebrew names?

Two harvests: grain and grape • Grain harvest - Armageddon = “heap of sheaves (grain) in the valley of judgment” on the Russian confederacy. • Grape harvest – wine, winepress, cup - on Babylon the Great (Jer.25:15-33; Isa.27:1,2; Rev. 16:17-21; 19:15) • Rev. 14:14-20 – TWO angels with sickles. • Mal. 4:1 (“day that burns as an oven” v.5)(“the great and dreadful day of the LORD”) • Joel 2:20 (“Northern army” destroyed),Joel 2:31 “great & terrible day of the LORD” • Rev.16 - the 6th vial ends with Armageddon and 7th vial ends with Babylon the Great + vials in sequence.

Evidence that this IMAGE stand up “all together” after Armageddon? • AfterArmageddon, Gog’s army buried in Israel Ezekiel 39:11 “And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place … in Israel …there shall they bury Gog …”. • “Supper of Great God” (Eze. 39:17) follows Gog’s burial (Eze.39:11) • Eze.39:17 … Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you … that ye might eat flesh. • Rev.19:15 … and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 17 …saying to all the fowls … gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, … and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

  22. How is this seen today? • The general view of Muslims is …“the Mahdi will arise and lead an army against Israel and capture Jerusalem. At this point the Antichrist will arise and lead an army against the Mahdi and when the Mahdi is on the point of defeat, Jesus will return to bring the day of judgment." • Scripture gives the following clues besides detailing the image seen by Nebuchadnezzar. • Psalm 83 describes 10 nations. It is suggest these correspond to the fingers of the image. These nations are Islamic. • Daniel 2:44 describes kings which correspond to the toes of the image. These nations are Catholic. • Psalm 48 describes these kings coming to Jerusalem and marveling what they see. • 2Thes 2 describes all would be deceived by a “strong delusion” which will trouble the feet and toes.

  23. 2 Thes.2:11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie(NIV) • “The lie” is the root belief in the immortality of the soul . This will trouble these kings (both Moslem and Christian) causing them to “set themselves” against God and Jesus, (Psa.2:2) even though they come to Jerusalem and see Ezekiel’s temple built!   24. Francisco Ribera(1580 A.D.)A Jesuit priest who wrote a 500 page commentary on the Revelations. He is credited as the founded of the FUTURIST SCHOOL which advanced that the Antichrist was a literal man instead of the Papacy. Emanuel Lacunza(1791A.D.)A Jesuit priest who wrote under the pen name of Ben-Ezra a 4 volume commentary entitled: “The Coming of the Messiah in Glory and Majesty”. He is credited with advancing the Futurist school to Protestants. THE LIE leads to Futurism!

  28. Interpretation of Scripture is so important to worship God in “spirit and in truth”. This false interpretation is called “Futurism”.

The “Left Behind” books & movies detail what a future Antichrist will do? • He will appear shortly after the armed forces of Russia are miraculously destroyed in Israel. • He begins as a peacemaker and directing the world to disarm. • The Jews will be prominent in welcoming and supporting him. • He will be responsible for a Middle East peace agreement. • He will rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. • He will allow the Jews to return to the Law of Moses. • He will perform superhuman signs, wonders and miracles. • He will claim to take the place of Jesus Christ. • The world will be commanded to worship him. • He establishes one-world government. • He establishes a one-world religion. • He will ruthlessly put down all opposition, persecuting “heretics”! • He and his followers appear to be immortal. “Left Behind”series 9th book

  31. Antichrist APPEARS 5 TIMES IN SCRIPTURE & ONLY IN EPISTLES OF JOHN 1 JOHN 2 – THERE ARE MANY ANTICHIRST IN JOHN CLUES1. “Antichrist” = against Christ, or an opposition Christ, a rival Christ. Someone who is taking the place of Christ. 2. Many Antichrist = Already in the first century – Not just one person, many at the time of John’s Epistles 1 John 2:18-19 (even now many antichrist have come) 2000 years ago, obviously a succession of individuals down through the ages, each known as ANTICHRIST.Who claim to rule in the place of Jesus Christ upon earth - & take the position of God, 1John 2:18. 3. THEY WENT OUT FROM US - PART OF THE TRUE CHURCH – Antichrists were part of the true church, so we see a religious association - Antichrists left the true believersand formed another false church – Christian roots, 1John2:19. 4. FALLING AWAY - false teachings – falling away of those who listen to wrong teaching from the truth – Apostasy, 1John2:24

  32. Antichrist CLUES continued: 5. A LIAR – Antichrist teaches lies which many believe 1Jn. 2:22. Antichrist unable to confess that Jesus came in the flesh, 1Jn.4:3. TRINITY: a. Flesh = the body as opposed to the soul (or spirit) – by implication human nature (with it frailties, physically or morally) and passionscarnally minded – Strong’s Concordance. b. Jesus was tempted in all points like us- but didn’t give in to sin. c. Jesus shared the same nature as us, mortal, tempted like us, Heb. 2:14-18. d. James 1:13 – God cannot be tempted, impossible for Jesus to be fully God& fully man – God cannot be tempted, can’t have both natures at the same time. e. Jesus didn’t put on a charade – Heb. 5:7-9 he cried for help from failing – only whenyou give into sin is it wrong – only if you have the nature to sin, can you fully understand others who do sin. 6. LIFE ETERNAL – If you keep from the false teachings of the Antichrist 1 John 2:25

  33. Seeing the vision not only builds faith but not being deceived by lies and the “strong delusion”!

The Kingdom of men versus the Kingdom of God Daniel 2:35 … and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. • A mountain is used symbolically for an empire’s army: • Jer.51:25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD,which destroyest all the earth … and will make thee a burnt mountain.

  35. What is the context? • Zec.6:1 … and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass. 5 … These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth. 8 …Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country. • The two brass (flesh) mountains will resist Jesus being deceived by a “strong delusion”. • The four spirits (saints) go throughout the world bringing God’s judgments on all who resist.

  36. What is the meaning “without hands”? • Daniel 2:34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. • The “stone” Jesus (1Cor.10:4) was removed from the Roman mountain, not by human hands but by God, (Acts 1:9). Jesus is to return and after Armageddon the Gentile world is described as two mountains of brass, Zec.6:1. Acts 4:11; 1Cor. 10:4 Zec.6:1) Acts4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

  37. Although we do not have any actual maps of Herodotus, people have gone to great lengths to create maps based directly on his writings.

What is the lie that God will cause them to believe? • 2 Thessalonians 2:11 And for this cause God shall send themstrong delusion, that they should believe alie:(Gk. “the” lie – NKJV, NIV) • The lie is when Jesus returns he is the Antichrist. Its root is the Papal doctrine that the soul is immortal This corrupts causing the image (kingdom of men) to be against Christ (anti-Christ). • 2 Thessalonians 2:3 … that man of sin (Pope) be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

  39. What about Nebuchadnezzar? Do you think Nebuchadnezzar couldn’t remember the dream or was he testing knowing if they could tell the dream the interpretation would be sure? • Daniel 2:3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation. Lk.16:8 “for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.”

Thou, O king, art this head of gold. after thee shall arise another kingdom = Media- Persia empire and another third kingdom of brass = Grecian empire the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron:the feet and toes = future kingdoms who are part of the total image made of clay (Socialism)and iron (authoritarianism).   43. Which nations are the toes? Feet and Toes of Iron & Clay We do not know but there is a shake up to come. It could be economic, i.e. Great Britain pulling out of the European Common Market Are there five in each leg? Is Russia one of the five?The giant in Gath had 6 toes on each foot, 2 Sam.21:20. What about the symbolism of six, ten and 12?

  44. Why was the form thereof “terrible”? • Daniel 2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. • 1763 d@chal (Aramaic) {deh-khal'}; v AV - fear 2, dreadful 2, terrible 1, afraid 1; 6 • These empires brought fear upon their subjects. • Nebuchadnezzar saw this image as great, bright and excellent. • God in Daniel 7 sees these same empires as ravenous beast.

Thou art this head of gold. • Kingdom singular supports this contrast to the Kingdom of God and this theme through scripture – Dan. 4:17,25,32; 5:21. • Daniel 4:17 … to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
