  5. Service Provider and Customer • Gov’t is the US largest Customer • 1/3 of GDP is generated by gov’t • Services: provided to general public through taxes • Dept of Defense, Homeland security, disaster recovery (FEMA), infrastructure (roads, etc.), libraries, education, etc.

  6. Regulator • Protects consumers, employees, investors and environment • Consumer Protection: Licensed occupations, FDA, CPSC • Worker Protection: EEOC, OSHA, FMLA • Investor Protection: SEC • Environment Protection: EPA

Enforcer of Free Enterprise • FTC: Federal Trade Commission • Three Bureaus • Bureau of Consumer Protection (Advertising, enforcement, financial, marketing, international, planning/information) • Bureau of Competition (anti-competitive mergers and distribution) • Bureau of Economics (compiles reports and provides to congress)
