Natural Disasters In Developing Countries. • Objective: Improving infrastructure with technology to reduce the degree of damage. • Why? : Controlling the impact of natural disasters proves beneficial to the development of the country. • Stages of Natural Disasters: • 1) Prediction, Preparation &Education • 2) Rescue & Relief • 3) Rehabilitation &Reconstruction

  6. Bridging the gaps What are the gaps how do we satisfy them?

Stage 1 Prediction, Prevention & Education • Education and awareness - Evacuation and first aid • Areas for evacuation -shelters, routes, procedures. • Communication • Prediction Strategies • Consideration for marginalized and vulnerable population during natural disasters - Ethnic minorities, mentally & physically handicapped individuals

Stage 2 Rescue & Relief • Small workforce of trained personnel -search rescue, police, disaster emergency, medi-aid etc. • Inefficient response time • Alternate evacuation routes • Insufficient technology for communication - Tele communication, internet and radio are often impacted. Can leave the country suffering for long

  9. Stage 3 Rehabilitation & Reconstruction • Little presence of support groups/grievance networks • Fraudulent aid organizations • Insurance policies facilities • Regaining identity : land and citizen rights • Recovery time : Second Strike Ability
