  3. 1. Now is the time to do God’s unfinished work (Haggai 1:1-15, August 29th, 520 BC) • 2. God will strengthen us for the task if we remember and envision his splendor (Haggai 2:1-9, October 17, 520 BC)

  4. 1. Now is the time to do God’s unfinished work (Haggai 1:1-15, August 29th, 520 BC) • 2. God will strengthen us for the task if we remember and envision his splendor (Haggai 2:1-9, October 17, 520 BC) • 3. God will guarantee complete restoration if we do it right—with holiness and obedience (Haggai 2:10-19, December 18, 520 BC)

  5. In contemporary terms, God is saying, “Now is the time to find the lost and care for the found. I will give you strength if you think about my splendor and I will guarantee that your work will be complete if you do it my way.”

  6. 20On that same day, December 18, the Lord sent this second message to Haggai: 21 “Tell Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah, that I am about to shake the heavens and the earth. 22 I will overthrow royal thrones and destroy the power of foreign kingdoms. I will overturn their chariots and riders. The horses will fall… (cont’d) • --Haggai 2:20-23 (NLT)

  7. …and their riders will kill each other. 23 “But when this happens, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, I will honor you, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, my servant. I will make you like a signet ring on my finger, says the Lord, for I have chosen you. I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!” • --Haggai 2:20-23 (NLT)

  8. After the Babylonian exile: Jehoiachin was the father of Shealtiel. Shealtiel was the father of Zerubbabel. • --Matthew 1:12 (NLT)

  9. Joda was the son of Joanan. Joanan was the son of Rhesa. Rhesa was the son of Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was the son of Shealtiel. Shealtiel was the son of Neri. • --Luke 3:27 (NLT)

  10. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. • --2 Corinthians 5:7 (NLT)

  11. Jesus is our signet ring of power and authority. We have the power and authority to stay in motion and finish well!

  12. Let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. • --Hebrews 12:1 (NRSV)

  13. The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them saying, “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you: do this in remembrance of me”. • --1 Corinthians 11:23-24 (NIV)

  14. The bread which we break is the communion of the body of Christ.

  15. In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the New Testament in my blood: do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. • --1 Corinthians 11:25-26 (NIV)

  16. The cup of blessing which we bless is the communion of the blood of Christ
