  1. Promoting Equality In Finance Industry • Embodied in Article 12 of the Constitution of • Singapore, advocate Gender Equality. • All people are equal before the law. • Entitled to equal protection of the law. • Right to vote was given to both women and men. • 5. Introduction of Women’s Charter and Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

  2. Active Labour Force Participation • Women taking on high level positions. • Overall Female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for Singapore is 55.6% as at June 2008. • Singapore’s financial and insurance services sector, according to the Labour Force Survey 2008, there are 70,800 women and 52,700 men working in this Sector and half of the female workers are in the age range of 25 to 39.

Our Employment System • No barrier to entry of employment opportunities in the financial and insurance sector irregardless of race and nationality or social origin. • In the Employment system ~ principle of meritocracy is adopted. 3. Collective agreements ~ between the Singapore National Trades Union Congress (SNTUC)-affiliated unions and management.

  4. Equal Remuneration Equal Remuneration • In Singapore, guided by the principle of equal pay for male and female employees for equal work done. • Ratified Convention 100 on Equal Remuneration at the International Labour Conference held in June 2002. • Three social partners have reaffirmed to the principle, by signing a Tripartite Declaration to observe and promote the principle of equal remuneration for men and women, performing work of equal value on 6 November 2002. • Singapore National Trades Union Congress (SNTUC), • Ministry of Manpower (MOM), • Singapore Business Federation (SBF)/Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF).   5. Work Life Balance • Greatest challenge for women ~ manage multiple roles and responsibilities, i.e. balance work, family, and personal life. 2. DBS Staff Union ~ introduce initiatives that encourage work-life balance. 3. DBS Staff Union, DBS Bank and the Singapore National Trades Union Congress (SNTUC) Women’s Development Secretariat, launched the Little Ones @ Work on 26 June 2009. 4. 400 children and DBS Bank employees, took part in the programme which was one of the largest turnouts.   6. Work Life Balance continue….. 5. Sister Nora Kang, President of DBSSU, “We encourage companies to embark on this initiative as one way to provide work life balance for their staff. Employees will be able to recognise the efforts made and thus appreciate the company more. As we always say, a happy family produces happy and productive employees.” 6. This Little Ones @ Work programme, is part of the Singapore labour movement’s efforts, to promote work life balance at the workplace.

  7. More Female Trade Union Representation • To draw more women into assuming and participating in leadership role. • Ong Teng Cheong Labour Leadership Institute, together with SNTUC Women’s Development Secretariat, provide necessary exposure, such as organising leadership courses, symposiums and regular dialogues for women. • In DBSSU, we have 15 women serving in the Executive Committee. DBSSU Female Awardees..

  8. More Female Trade Union Representation • 4. Despite their family commitments, these women have • been serving tirelessly for the interest of fellow • workers. • Over the years, they have spoke up issues on:- • More flexi working hours • More women back to labour workforce • More women to hold position DBSSU Female Awardees..

  9. Conclusion In conclusion, we acknowledge that we need to work more on promoting and implementing work-life balance as well as bring more women, especially the younger ones, into the union membership and leadership in order to better understand their needs and better represent them to achieve a better gender equality at the workplace. 0ur Future Leaders!!
