  2. i – stem • hacer – hic-**= did, made • querer – quis-= tried no querer = refused • venir – vin-= came **In the él/ella/Udpreterite form of hacer the c changes to z to keep the (s) sound. - Pedro hizo la cama.

  3. u - stem • tener – tuv- = received • estar – estuv- = was, were, became • andar – anduv- = walked, wandered • poder – pud- = managed to no poder = failed to • poner – pus- = put, placed • saber – sup- = found out

  4. j – stem* • traer – traj- = brought • conducir – conduj- = drove • traducir – traduj- = translated • decir – dij- = said, told • producir –produj- = produced * When an irregular preterite stem ends in –j, the ellos, ellas, Uds form drops the i in the ending. - Dijeronque van al bosque. - Trajeron los binocularesparaver los pájaros.

  5. These verbs DO have a pattern. • Know the irregular stem • Add the irregular endings • -e (Notice that these • -isteare a combination • -o of -ar and –er/-ir • -imosendings WITHOUT • -ieronaccents.)
