DESCRIPTION

This figure illustrates the arrangement of small plots in a field where legumes are planted in mixtures alongside a grass or other non-nitrogen-fixing plant. For fields utilizing legume monocultures, only two plots are necessary, as the middle plot, representing the mixture, is omitted. The non-legume plant serves as a critical reference for calculating the total nitrogen derived from biological nitrogen fixation in the legume plots, allowing for clear assessment of legume performance in nitrogen contribution.
