Who We are • Organize & coordinate parenting education & resources county wide • Create a parenting education system built on successful collaboration among families, agencies, and the community • Enhance positive parenting practices and promote the health and optimal development of children and youth.

  4. Promoting positive parenting takes the whole community- each organization is a key player and when everyone works together on a shared goal, the likelihood of success is greater. Why Parenting Matters Practices that put adolescents at risk for substance use, delinquency, teenage pregnancy, academic failure, & arrest • Family conflict • Poor/ineffective parenting • Low bonding between adolescents and parents • Unclear expectations from parents • Poor monitoring • Lack of proper appraisal for positive behaviors • Harsh or inconsistent punishment for misbehavior

  6. Why Parenting Matters • Virtually every scientific study done on child development and behavior shows that a more hands-on, attached, and involved parenting approach results in children: • Attuned Community

Why Parenting Matters • Parents Play an Important Role • Early life experiences have a huge effect • on the brain providing the experiences children need. • Parents model and teach children positive values and skills. • Importance of Healthy Relationships • It is important for children to have healthy and positive relationships to grow and learn. • Parenting can be improved • Most people believe there is something they can do to increase their parenting skills.
