CSA Posse • The regular contact for all things CSA • Coordinates CSA related activities • Communicates CSA related information and resources to fellow board members • Oversees all CSA branded materials • Volunteers at conferences as needed • Responsible for submitting and documenting all ‘food bank’ eligible activities • Participates in teleconferences as needed
Make your Mark • Discovering barriers to post secondary education within the Aboriginal community • Through face to face discussions with Aboriginal students in the college system • What barriers did they have to overcome • What contributed to their overcoming these barriers • Sharing Circles • Completed at Sault & Confed • 3-5 more by Fall ‘10 • Publish results early Spring ‘11
Strategic Framework • CSA Board will be working on revamping this over the summer • Looking ahead (3-5 years) to determine focus and potential future development • Review effectiveness and next steps for all areas of Strat. Frmewrk with an emphasis on Advocacy – LS – member on-campus development Any recommended adjustments will be brought to the membership for input and approval at October Conference
Constitution and Policies • CSA Board will work on a complete line by line review of CSA constitution to update and ensure relevancy for moving forward • Changes will be presented to the membership for input and recommendations will be presented for member approval at October Conference
Policy Committee - Advocacy • Selected members provide input on work in progress and help to poll members for their input • Participate in monthly teleconferences • Keep up to date on all current position papers and research work
Leadership Success Steering Committee • 8-10 members • Act as peer facilitators @ Conference LS sessions • Bi-monthly teleconferences • LS workshop in mid-January – [2 day on weekend] • Review/assessment of LS year to date • Input on new LS initiatives for the following year
Marketing Committee • 4-6 members • Work in support role with Creative Director • Creative thinking group for CSA material • Campaign promotional meterial • SA Awareness theme and design • SA/CSA branded materials for campus
SA Awareness • Increase the awareness of SA and CSA on campus • Provides an opportunity to bring issues to student body that otherwise may not get coverage • One-to-one engagement with students • Opportunity to show advocacy work SA is is actively involved with • 2009 – 12,000 ballots • 2010 – 19,000 ballots
Advocacy – Issue based Campaign s • Provincial Election – Fall 2011 • Federal Election – best bet: no earlier than Fall 2010 • CCBA – initial ballots still sealed – not likely released until Fall 2010 • Make Your Mark – Aboriginal Sharing Circles • Looking to involve 3-5 campuses with a defined Aboriginal population • Transferability guidelines – initial due Fall 2010 • Awareness campaign to coincide with college/university application
Leadership Success – going forward • New Session facilitators more closely aligned to membership • CSA taking more control of program • L|S on campus where need is defined and assistance is requested – initial focus on SA’s struggling [non intrusive] • Will work in tandem with SA President and GM • Memoirs of a Student Leader • Required reading for all new student leaders (as per presidents) • Monthly LS tips on timely and relevant issues • Library of resources for access by members • Accreditation
Presidents Retreat • Twice yearly – August (20th to 22nd) - March (1st wknd) • Weekend retreat with session geared to the specific responsibilities of SA presidents • Governance • Leadership • Board Management • Full Time staff relationships • Guest speaker
Conferences • October - Thurs. 8th – 10th • February - Thurs. 11th – 13th • Regional Mini-Cons • July/August - Feb/March • No fees • Usually one day – hosted by regional SA • Open to all SA board members and full/pt staff • LS focus – Advocacy – Regional issues – Guest speaker
GM Best Practice Methods • Through your input and direction create a series of best practice methods for GM/ED’s and all fulltime staff positions • Resources available on CSA Intranet • Closer communication to head off issues – work together • HOW CAN I BE OF ASSISTANCE TO YOU THROUGHOUT THE YEAR? • OK…this is where you all speak up…….
Student Advisors - SASCC • I will be working with them more closely this year along with our DOA (Jim Robeson) • Establish a working relationship with each member campus • Build a better understanding of student leaders • Overview of CSA initiatives (eliminate the ‘dream killer syndrome’) • Provide insight from a CSA perspective • Participation in SASCC meetings • Collaborative exploration of common ground enabling CSA & SASCC to work together
