Device-to-device vs person-to-person • So many ways to communicate that we waste time choosing the right one • IM: back channels and quick access to the experts • Voice: some people can’t write, some ideas too complex for a one-liner • Video: make sure every one is really “present” • Presence frees us from having to sift through a list of communication points and enables real time access PIC-SER for Campus Trials

Member Meeting Trials Package • MM demos at Indianapolis in 2003, and Honolulu, Arlington in 2004 • IM, voice, automatic location tracking, web portal integration, client interoperability (sipc, WaveThree Session) • iptel.org’s SIP EXpress Router (SER) – Jamey Hicks of Hewlett Packard Research Labs molds the open source of the Presence Agent (PA) module • Experience PIC/ALS before the standards are final, and without vendor lock-in PIC-SER for Campus Trials
