Background of RCL Project • ALA wanted to update Books for College Libraries • GSIS discussion on core books list • ALA partners with Bowker • ALA partners with subject experts • Result: The core list for academic libraries features 65,000 titles in 58 curriculum-specific subjects. Titles have been selected by more than 300 subject specialists and bibliographers.

  3. Timeline of RCL Project • August 2004 – Geology section editors recruited • September 2004 -- February 2005 – Project parameters refined and discussed • February-May 2005 – Subject taxonomy developed • June 2005 – Authoring system tested and launched • June 2005 to March 14, 2006 – Recruitment of bibliographers and identification, review and selection of resources • May 2006 – Referee’s report and final review and editing • July 2006 – RCL content and review completed • September 2006 – RCLWeb launched
