  3. Background • Attendees of “day 1,” Feb 20, were surveyed to assist the Program Committee to determine: • Key messages heard from presenters • Major concerns / opportunities for collective action • Highest priorities for day-2 program Day-1 Survey

  7. The Quilt: Attendee Comments • Largely successful in its role as GigaPOP & RON pricing consortium + advocate • Membership growing • Increasing diversity a challenge • Some perceive tension w home base @Internet2 Day-1 Survey

  8. Internet2: Attendee Comments • New governance model more open to CIOs, RONs, researchers; complex; in transition now • New network advanced, costly • Revenue targets unrealistic? • Open to re-engagement w NLR, but has the window of oppty passed? Day-1 Survey

NLR: Attendee Comments • Delivering services at layers 3, 2, 1 • 14 investor-members are RONs or universities representing RONs, who contributed $5M over 5 years • Cisco has played a key role • Smaller, lower overhead org • More focused on RONs & researchers • Dubious about merger, per se Day-1 Survey

  11. Key Concerns • Duplicative national infrastructures • High fixed costs, so unclear that “competition” is beneficial • How to resolve the impasse at the national level? • Tradeoff between national & regional investments Day-1 Survey
