Reading Intervention Block • School Wide • 40 Minutes a Day • 5 Days a Week • Work is NOT Graded • Data Collected
Reading Intervention Groups • Student/Teacher Ratio of 3:1 • Maximum of 3 students in each group • Program Used-Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) • LLI-Provides instruction in reading, writing, and phonics/word study
Leveled Literacy Intervention Program • Designed to supplement, not substitute classroom instruction • Length of daily lessons assure reinforcement of new learning to support accelerated growth • Group size assures close observation/intensive teaching interaction promoting individual learning and faster progress • Designed as a short-term intervention with the goal of grade level performance in 12 to 20 weeks • Lessons include reading texts, writing, phonics, and word study
How is this accomplished? • Fast paced lessons-students are highly engaged at a level where they can find success • High quality texts-engage young readers in high quality fiction and non-fiction • Attention to fluent, phrased reading, and deep comprehension of text • Building of early writing strategies • Systematic phonics • Ongoing assessments to inform reading levels and daily teaching • Home Connection
Home Support • Book/Bag provided for Nightly Reading • Try to establish a regular routine • Parent and child sign reading log • Return book and reading log daily • NIGHTLY READING is a KEY component to program success • Letter provides suggested activities
Home/School Connection • Parental/Guardian support and encouragement is researched as a key element in student success • Nightly Reading Critical • Feedback, questions, suggestions, & concerns are welcome and appreciated • Woodridge Family Activity-To Be Announced
