Feline Restraint-Part III Handling and Restraint Mr. Robinson
Mechanical Restraint for Cats • There are several mechanical devices that can be used for cats: • 1. Collars and leashes • 2. Muzzles • 3. Head snares • 4. Gloves • 5. Cat bags • 6. Towels • 7. Cat net
Leashes and Collars • Cat collars come in various styles and materials, but none of them restrain cats very well. • A slip leash will thwart a cat’s escape attempts if you apply it before picking up or carrying a cat.
Towel or Cat Burrito • The cat burrito can be used instead of a cat bag and tends to be easier to get fractious cats wrapped in towel than it is to get them in a cat bag. • The Cat Burrito can be used to clean ears, get blood or restrain a fractious cat. • Remember: when handling the cat in a cat bag or a cat burrito, you still need to scruff the cat as they can still use their mouth to bite.
Cat Net • The cat net is similar to a rabies pole in appearance accept instead of a noose on one end there is a net. • The net can be placed over a cat to remove it from a cage, especially, if the cat is wild or extremely vicious.
