  • born in Cambridge,Ohio in 1921

  • he was the first American to orbit the Earth

  • he piloted the spacecraft Friendship 7 around the globe 3 times

  • born in Wapakoneta, Ohio in 1930

  • he was the commander of Apollo 11 which was the first lunar landing mission

  • On July 20th, 1969, he was the first man to set foot on the moon

  • The students will write a story about what they would like

  • to do if they were an astronaut. They will have to write about

  • what they think they would see from the moon and how they would feel.

  • The student will be responsible for coming up with different laws that they

  • believe would give more rights to women and African-American people.

  • They would also write in their journals about what would be different if we

  • had a female president.

  • The students will draw a large map of Ohio and find the place

  • where their choice president lived. After drawing the map,

  • the students will be asked to research the web to find other presidents from

  • Ohio and put them on the map as well.

  • Edison’s “ Invention Factory” produced more than 1,000 inventions

  • Both Orville and Wilbur Wright created the first

  • powered flight in history in 1903.

  • They built their own engine.

  • In 1905, they built the first practical airplane

  • “Wright Flyer III”

The Students will be put into group of 4 or 5 to perform 2 of the

experiments from the selected book. They will each make a story of

their own inventions.

Final Activity

On Day 4 the students will be asked to choose a

famous inventor, president, woman, or an astronaut

from Ohio. They are to research this person on

Day 4 during class. On Day 5, the student will be

required to present their report to class.

Along with the report the students will be

required to write a story from that persons point of

view and dress up as that character as best as

possible. The students will read their story as

the person they have chosen.
