  4. The Truth About Baptism • The proper element is water. • Acts 10:47-48 • The proper mode is immersion. • Acts 8:38-39, Romans 6:4

  5. The Truth About Baptism • The proper reasons to be baptized: • To be saved – Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:21 • For the remission of sins – Acts 2:38, 22:16 • To access the blood of Christ – Romans 6:3-4 • To get into Christ – Galatians 3:26-27

  6. What About Denominational Baptism? There is only 1 way to Heaven - John 14:6. That way is narrow – Matthew 7:13-14. You can’t take another way and get there. Eg. You can’t get to Stephenville from Alvarado on I-35.

  7. What About Denominational Baptism? Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. • The one baptism is a result of the one faith taught by the one Lord.

  8. What About Denominational Baptism? • The one baptism is a result of the one faith taught by the one Lord. 1 Lord + 1 Faith = 1 Baptism 1 Lord + 2 Faiths = 1 Baptism?

  9. What About Denominational Baptism? Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. Cf. 1:23

  10. Baptist Doctrine of Salvation IV. Salvation Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. A. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God's grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Saviour.

  11. Baptist Doctrine of Salvation B. Justification is God's gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God. C. Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God's purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person's life. D. Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed. http://www.sbc.net/bfm/bfm2000.asp

  12. Baptism in the Baptist Church Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1858 XV. BAPTISM. Baptism is an ordinance of the Lord Jesus, obligatory upon every believer, wherein he is immersed in water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, as a sign of his fellowship with the death and resurrection of Christ, of remission of sins, and of his giving himself up to God, to live and walk in newness of life. It is prerequisite to church fellowship, and to participation in the Lord's Supper. http://www.baptiststart.com/print/baptism_quotes.html

  13. Baptism in the Baptist Church “But what if a person seeking membership in a Baptist church is a member of a church other than Baptist? Baptist churches, being autonomous, respond in various ways. The response depends both on the church background of the person seeking membership as well as on the policies of the church. …

  14. Baptism in the Baptist Church Generally speaking, if such a person has not been baptized by immersion as a believer in Christ, a Baptist church will require that he or she indicate faith in Christ and be baptized before becoming a member. If the person has been immersed as a believer, but that baptism was considered necessary for salvation, most Baptist churches will require the person to be baptized before becoming a member; this is done in order to make clear that baptism, while important, is not necessary for salvation. …

  15. Baptism in the Baptist Church If the person has been immersed as a believer and understands that it was a way to testify symbolically that he or she had been born again, some Baptist churches will accept such a person into membership. Other Baptist churches will ask the person to be baptized in a Baptist church.” Baptists Believe in a Regenerate Church Membership www.baptistdistinctives.org Written by Bill Pinson and Doris Tinker, with the staff of The Baptist Standard, The Texas Baptist Newsjournal
