OSA with AOC arrays

OSA with AOC arrays. 10 arrays operated in environmental chamber T=70C. I= 10 mA (DC) Power monitored every minute for 8 channels from each array. Started 4/6 without OSA OSA monitored 9/9 23/9 and 11/10 Reference array operated in lab environment T~ 22C RH~ 70%.

  1. OSA with AOC arrays • 10 arrays operated in environmental chamber • T=70C. • I= 10 mA (DC) • Power monitored every minute for 8 channels from each array. • Started 4/6 without OSA • OSA monitored • 9/9 23/9 and 11/10 • Reference array operated in lab environment T~ 22C RH~ 70%. • OSA monitored from start of operation • 27/9 1/10 and 11/10 Update AOC arrays 22/10/10

  2. Optical Power for arrays at 70C Chamber at RT • Measured with • MT-12 to 12*ST fan-out individual photodiodes  ELMB. • No deaths in ~ 4 ½ months 1 mA = 2 mW

  3. Widths for arrays at 70C • Define full width @ peak – 30 dB • Compare data sets separated by 33 days DC operation. • No obvious systematic changes. • Most channels stay the same, some increase, some decrease.

  4. Compare Spectra • Most channels very similar • Blue 23/09/10 • Red 11/10/10 • Sometimes HO modes increase sometimes decrease. • Plots for other channels in backup slides

  5. Worst Case • One channel showed successive decrease in widths • 09/0923/9 11/10 • HO mode disappeared • Continue to monitor to see if this channel will degrade further…

  6. Widths for Reference Arrays • Compare data sets separated by days DC operation. • Most channels stay the same, some increase, some decrease.

  7. Compare Spectra • Most channels very similar • Blue 27/09/10 • Red 11/10/10

  8. Channels 4 to 7

  9. Channels 8 to 11 • Channel 11 shows different wavelength shift?

  10. Summary & Outlook • 10 arrays @ 70C • No deaths in 4 ½ months DC. • No systematic decrease in spectral widths in 33 days DC @ 10 mA. • Reference array at 22C and ~ 70% RH • No significant decreases in width for 26 days DC @ 10 mA. • Evidence growing that reliability AOC arrays in these opto-packs is better than Truelight. • Possible explanations • AOC arrays (expect these to be better at high RH) • Different epoxy cure • Infineon spring • Outlook • Continue running to confirm tentative conclusions. • Need other tests (Minglee & Steve) to distinguish different hypotheses • Perform reliability tests for AOC arrays at 70C/85% RH.

  11. Backup Slides • Spectra comparisons for all 10 arrays operated at T=70C. • Compare 23/09/10 and 11/1010
