  1. Safehouse • Nicole Friss, Kasey Rizzo, JhamaniWyant “Take a Stand. Lend a Hand”

  2. Focus • Safehouse is an online web support group where people can go to talk about the problems they are having, particularly with bullying and rights to have a gay marriage. It is a support group where everyone can safely express their feelings on the matters and give as well as receive advice on how to handle different situations related to bullying and gay marriage.

  3. Statistics on Gay Rights • There are 1,138 benefits the federal government gives based on marital status and not on civil union status. Some of these benefits include unpaid leave to care for an ill spouse, social security survival benefits, spousal benefits, and the right not to testify against a spouse. • FBI statistics show that there were 6,604 reported hate crimes in 2009. Out of those reported, 18.5% were due to sexual orientation and most of them were violent. • In the United States, 75% of students have no state laws to protect them from discrimination in school due to their sexual orientation. 97% of high school students report hearing homophobic remarks on a daily basis. • 26% of gay teens who came out to their parents were forced to leave home. • Since 1977, a man who has had sexual intercourse with another man is automatically disqualified from donating blood, despite improvements in testing and the increased risk of HIV to heterosexuals.

  4. Statistics on Bullying • 160,000 students miss school everyday for fear of being harassed or intimidated by other students • 56% of students have witnessed some type of bullying at school • 282,000 students are physically attacked at school each month • 90% of 4th-8th graders report being victims of bullying • 54% of students say that witnessing physical abuse at home can lead to the student becoming a bully • 1 out of every 10 students who drop out of school do so due to bullying • Harassment and bullying have been linked to 75% of school shootings

  5. Rationale/Need • The reason why this business is important is because it is saving the lives of young teens as well as making the world a 'better place'. It might be a cliched statement, but it is exactly what the world needs. The next generation of teen and children is being cut short because of the increase in deaths of teens throughout the United States. Whether they are bullied for being Gay or Lesbian or being different and having a disability, we want teens to know that they are not the only ones and they have alliances that are willing to help them make it through.Bulling is the new form of homicide and even though it is not stopping, the law is taking over and incarcerating those who have bullied any student in any way, especially when it comes to suicides.

  6. Results • We are looking for anyone who wants to change or wants to be protected or make it known that they want help to visit the website and get any help or information that they need. We would like for a decent turn out and to now that our information and guidance is helping these children and teens or anyone else that is in need of our assistance.
