However, due to the presence of backup analog displays for critical flight instruments such as the airspeed indicator and altimeter, the pilots were able to land the aircraft successfully at Newark Airport without radio contact. With the facilitation of global positioning system (GPS) in aircraft, the pilot workload is significantly reduced with increased situational awareness, and safety.
