  1. Mongillo Law – How Do You Recognize A Victim Of Domestic Abuse?

  2. Domestic abuse is more common than we think. We believe that domestic abuse happens only in lower-income households, but the truth is that it exists everywhere. Domestic violence does not mean only physical abuse but also controlling someone’s mind and actions. Domestic abuse can lead to the victim being confused and afraid. The victim sometimes does not even realize that they are a victim. Domestic abuse hits when it is least expected. It starts slowly by cutting off people from the victim’s life. The actual abuse starts once people walk out of the victim’s life. A family law firm like Mongillo Law can help with domestic violence cases.

  3. Signs of domestic abuse: • Unexplained injuries: A victim might try and make excuses for the abuser’s behavior. The victim might not be able to explain the bruises on his own body. The victim might make excuses for any visible physical injury. We must ask several questions so that the victim might slip up and tell the truth.

  4. Change in Personality – A drastic personality change might also be a clue to domestic abuse. When you see an extrovert person suddenly become quiet in front of a particular person, the other person might be the abuser. Haunted by low self-esteem, the victims think they are responsible for their condition.  • Constantly in touch with the partner – If a friend’s partner keeps calling or checking in continuously, your friend might be a domestic violence victim. If the person checks in with the partner at short intervals without reason, it sends out red signals. We must create a safe space so that the victim can explain their situation.

  5. Always short on funds – If you have a friend who has a job but never has money, something is suspicious. The abuser might control all the money so that the victim doesn’t run away or tell anybody. The abuser controls all the aspects of the victim’s life. It starts with taking care of the finances because the partner loves the other. The love turns into greed and then takes the ugly form of domestic abuse.  • Constantly worried – A domestic violence victim always aims at pleasing the abuser. The victim is always worried that one wrong step could lead to repercussions. They always talk about pleasing their partner. The victim is always worried about the partner’s opinion about anything.

  6. Not socializing – If you notice someone suddenly skipping out on get-togethers, family functions, work, etc., without an explanation, it is time to investigate the matter. The abuser usually starts by keeping the victim at home and cutting the victim out from the world. They ensure that nobody misses the victim when the actual abuse starts. The abuser does not want the victim to have friends who could help the victim in the future.  • Wearing the wrong kind of clothes – If someone constantly wears clothes that do not suit the season, start asking questions. The victim might wear long sleeves or high necks during summers to hide scars.

  7. We must be very watchful of the people around us. One among us might be a victim of domestic abuse. If one comes across a domestic violence victim, they must inform the authorities who can help the victim. Once the victim is far away from the clutches of the abuser, a family lawyer like Leo Mongillo can help them. The family lawyer can get justice for the victim. • SOURCE CREDIT : • https://mongillolaw.wordpress.com/2022/04/06/mongillo-law-how-do-you-recognize-a-victim-of-domestic-abuse/
