  1. We Beaumonts are like anybody else. We get born and sometime later we die. We feel love and we feel fear.

  2. But we also have special talents!

  3. A savvy that comes along when we turn 13.

  4. When my brother Fish turned13, we moved to the deepest part of the inland

  5. because of the hurricane and, of course, the fact that he caused it.

  6. On his birthday, my brother Rocket blacked out the whole town.

  7. Now it’s my turn, my thirteenth, But it’s not going to be a happy one.

  8. There will be no pink and yellow cake with perfect sugar roses. No family gathered around.

  9. My dear sweet Poppa is in the hospital down in Salina And I’m the only one who can wake him up

  10. That’s how I ended up stowaway on the pink Heartland Bible Supply bus along with my brothers Fish and Sampson not to mention both the preacher’s kids, Will JR and Bobbi.

  11. Yep, we are going to be in a heap of trouble when this is over! But I have to get to Poppa!

  12. Now, if only the bus was going the right way!
