  2. Social Factors • Many social factors can contribute to the underdevelopment of rural areas. These include • Lack of education- this makes people less likely to find good jobs or start their business. • Poverty- poverty is a major problem in many rural areas. • Lack of political will- the government may not be interested in developing rural areas, due to a lack of resources, political support, or understanding of the challenges facing rural communities. • Lack of infrastructure • Discrimination • Traditional beliefs
