  3. “ Would it be advisable for us to check on sleep pattern for fertility evaluation? ” INTRODUCTION: Having difficulties in sleeping? Don’t take it lightly, as it can lead to adverse health effects like depression, obesity, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and many others which can drive an individual towards mortality. It is clearly mentioned in reproductive epidemiology that disrupted sleep patterns can lead to a higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes like low birth weight, preterm birth, gestational diabetes and stillbirth.According to some of the new evidence, disrupted sleep can be linked with women’s impaired fertility. In a report, Wise LA et al [1]. focused on short sleep duration in men and found it to be linked with reduced fecundability. Expensive fertility workups and treatments can also have alternatives when modifiable determinants of infertility are identified.

  4. SUMMARY:In early 2019, Gaskins AJ [2] noticed that lower fecundability and short sleep duration (say, less than 6 hours which is normally 8 hours) are related, a genuinely powerful connection between sleeping difficulties and lower fecundability. A woman with sleeping difficulties was recorded to have 64% cumulative probability of pregnancy at 12 months which is more than 50% of the time in comparison to 76% of women with no such trouble while sleeping. Though, this relation was largely influenced giving extra leverage to the male partner sleep duration which was restricted in case of nulliparous women. As reported by 20% of women in this cohort they had troubled sleep more than 50% of the time which is a common exposure. This study says that women having troubled sleep more than 50% of the time were found to be of lower socioeconomic status. They were mostly from minority group having depression of higher levels and also perceived stress in comparison to those having no difficulty in sleeping. At this point, we have the question of if correcting sleeping pattern could be utilized as an alternative to intermediary against the bad impacts of risk factors like anxiety (low socioeconomic status) and depression which leads to delayed time to pregnancy. It has also been seen that some subgroups like people suffering from depression or obesity, who feel tired and may speculate they sleep not exactly the to the standard, paying less attention to the actual estimated sleep, can predict and their sleep is self-reported. Hence, in further studies emphasises on determining the sleep quality with the help of actigraphy or more accurate regulated measures is recommended.

  5. CONCLUSION: From a clinical point of view, the treatment of sleeping difficulties would improve personal satisfaction as well as may serve a flexible pathway for upgrading unconstrained fertility. WIth an intriguing focus on the relationship between women’s sleep health and time to pregnancy, this article is the first extensive research to improve our knowledge on this subject further. These days, sleeping difficulties is being observed as a neglected general medical issue, majorly among subgroups like young women, clinicians and researchers alike ought to be urged to gather data on sleep patterns think about it as one of numerous significant elements, along with healthy eating routine (diet) and dynamic lifestyle, in developing health and potentially fertility in women.
