  1. People of The Civil War By: Tyler Beene April 4th, 2012 This Power Point will include 6 people from the civil war and some details about that person.

  2. Jefferson Davis • He was leader of the Confederacy during the war. After resigning from the U.S. Senate he was selected to be the provisional President of the Confederate States of America. • He was on the Confederates side (South) during war. • Born: June 3, 1808; Died: December 6, 1889.

  3. Ulysses S. Grant • 18th President of the U.S. He led the Radical Republicans to eliminate all vestiges of Confederate Nationalism and slavery. He had a dominant role in the 2nd half of the Civil War, during that The Union defeated The Confederate Army when Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox. • He was for The Union. • Born: April 27, 1822; Died: July 23, 1885

  4. Robert E. Lee • He was from Virginia and was offered to command the Union Army, but he wanted to stay loyal to his home state so he started helping the Confederate Army. Later, However, he surrendered to Ulysses E. Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1965. • For the Confederate Army. • Born: January 19, 1807; Died: October 12, 1870

  5. Abraham Lincoln • Was the 16th President of the U.S. He was for the Union and wanted to end Slavery and promote economic and financial modernization. • For the Union Army. • Born: February 12, 1809; Died: April 15, 1865

  6. William Carney • Born a slave in Norfolk, Virginia but escaped using the Underground Railroad. Met a white man named William Carney and that man gave him his last name so he could fight. He was awarded the Medal of Honor, for saving the flag. • Was for the Union. • Born: February 29, 1840; Died: December 8, 1908

  7. Philip Bazaar • Received a Medal of Honor for having distinguished himself during the battle of Fort Fisher in the Civil War. Also he was for the Union Army and him and his comrades were given the Medal of Honor. • For The Union. • Born: In Chile, South America
