Overall iodine deficiency of Kazakhstan population, DHS 1999
Main Activities Conducted • Supplied salt iodization equipment and Potassium Iodate to the two largest salt producers in Pavlodar and Kzylorda • Supplied of IDD Laboratory Equipment to KAN and to Salt Producers
Main Activities Conducted • Supported training courses for health professionals; • Held number of Press-Conferences on IDD Problems, issued number of articles on newspapers and magazines
Main Activities Conducted • Supported Promotion of Legislation for USI. A Government Decree “On IDD Prevention among the population of Kazakhstan” was issued. • A programme on IDD prevention among the population for 2001-2005 was approved by the Government
Main Activities Conducted • IDD KAP Study was conducted and the findings of the Survey will be used for development of Communication Strategy
Constraints • The issued Government Decree on IDD Prevention does not concentrates on USI and leaves room for iodization of other food products • There is no system in place which would prevent import of non-iodized salt
Constraints • According to the Aral Salt producers there are a lot of fake salt produced though there is no official data • The Republican SES does not have much interest in monitoring salt
Constrains • There was no communication strategy developed
