  2. Assessment Assessment is used as a guide for teaching and as an opportunity for children to show, in a variety of ways, what they know and what they can do. There are two patterns of assessment-

  3. Formative assessment: Formative assessment is interwoven with the daily learning and helps teachers and children to find out what the children already know in order to plan the next stage of learning. Formative assessment and teaching are directly linked, neither can function effectively nor purposefully without the other.

  4. Summative assessment: Summative assessment takes place at the end of the teaching and learning processes and gives the children opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned. Summative assessments may include any of or any combination of, the following : acquisition of data, synthesis of information, application of knowledge and processes.
