Clean Air Act National Enforcement Initiatives FY 2013 • NSR/PSD • Improve air quality by targeting largest sources of pollution especially cement, glass and acid manufacturing • Air Toxics • Targeting in disproportionately affected communities • Energy Extraction • Land-based extraction and production activities

  3. NSR/PSD Priority Sector Statistics Accomplishments to Date

  4. Air Toxics • Industrial Flares • Reduction of HAPs from waste gas flares at chemical companies • Excess Emissions • Focus on Miscellaneous Organic NESHAP (MON) Subpart FFFF EJ and Risk Scores

  5. Energy Extraction Initiative

  6. Air Quality Impacts • Pollutants: NOx, VOCs, HAPs, Methane • Well Pads – high emissions, not highly regulated • Compressor Stations – significant emissions, higher level of regulations • Gas Plants – lower level of emissions, most highly regulated

  7. Energy Extraction Initiative Goal • By no later than the end of FY2016, investigate and address known land-based natural gas extraction and production activities that may be causing or contributing to air and/or water impacts
