  2. About NAMI • Nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization • Dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with serious mental illness and their families • In every state and in over 1100 local communities • Advocacy, research, support, and education.

  3. What do they do? • Public education and information activities • Family and consumer peer education and activities • Advocacy on behalf of people living with mental illness and for the health of our community • Visible public events that raise funds and awareness

  4. Organization • National Board of Directors • Three categories of members: • Individual members • Local affiliates • State organizations • Four advisory boards: • Consumer council • State presidents’ council • Veteran’s council • Executive council

  5. The National Office • Support to NAMI's state and affiliate members • Governs the NAMI corporation • Engages in advocacy, education and leadership development nationally • Strong presence on Capitol Hill in Washington DC • Sub-groups: • Policy Department • Multicultural Action Center • Children & Adolescent Action Center • Center on Law and Criminal Justice
