Simon Doull Shares The Reason Behind Indian Pacers’ Poor Performance In WTC Final Former New Zealand speedster Simon Doull has shared that lack of match practise before the all-important World Test Championship final against New Zealand has affected India’s pace attack. On the other hand, New Zealand had the opportunity to play two Tests against England before the WTC final where they won the series 1-0 as well. Meanwhile, the Virat Kohli-led Indian team last featured against England in a 2-1 Test series at home earlier this year as well. “…at times you look and overthink and say ‘did they (India) have enough preparation?’ I think they did. I am sure in the last 10-12 days they would have bowled enough deliveries to make sure they are ready and raring to go,” Doull said to Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz. Image Source by Twitter
He again shared: “But its hard to simulate match practice. You can try in these intra-squad games but it just doesn’t quite work and that’s the key. It is genuinely hard to replace match practice that makes you better and get you ready for those matches.” However, his comments came after seeing Indian pace attack’s poor performance in New Zealand’s first innings score of 101 for 2 in reply to India’s 217 all out as well. India’s pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami failed miserably and couldn’t take early wickets at the Ageas Bowl, unlike the New Zealand bowlers. And, Doull said that New Zealand have the advantage in the ongoing final after playing the two Tests against England before the mega event as well.
However, so far the game has been halted either rain or bad light. While the first day and the fourth day was washed out, bad light too has played it part and it will be interesting to see how thing will turn on the fifth day.
