L Balaji Believes Ishant Sharma Will Be Key In English Conditions India is all set to tour England where they will first play in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship against New Zealand from the 18th of June in Southampton. After that, they play against England in a five-match Test series which will commences from August as well. While India have a strong bowling unit, former India fast bowler and currently the bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings Laxmipathy Balaji believes veteran Ishant Sharma will be the key as well. In an exclusive with Cricketnext, he opened up about this. Notably, Ishant has a total of 43 wickets in 12 Tests which came at an average of 33.9 and strike rate of 61.3 in England including the match-winning spell of 7-74 at Lord’s in 2014. Apart from that, he has some other as well, including the performance (5-51) in Birmingham in 2018. Somebody with 100 Tests behind him, 300-plus wickets, you need his experience in England, where India has the World Test Championship final first and then the five-Test series. You need his experience to handle the dry phases of a Test, where you wait and watch, time-game happens. The experienced bowlers know how to handle such dry phases when things unfold,” said Balaji. Balaji again shared that Ishant Sharma had the ability to turn the table by delivering a defining spell at any given situation. He further stated that Jasprit Bumrah will take over the mantle from Ishant soon but currently Sharma may lead the pace attack given his rich experience of playing in England as well.
