  1. BCCI And ECB Discussing To Cut Short Test Series For IPL Window In England Team India is all set to leave for the UK on June 2 to play in the inaugural World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton. After that, they will play a five-match Test series against England as well, which will begin in August. Hence, the team wouldn’t have any cricketing action in England during July. On the other hand, BCCI announced a limited-over series in Sri Lanka in July, where a second-string Indian team will participate and the members of the Test squad won’t be playing there as well. Now, BCCI is looking for a vacant window for the rest of the IPL 2021, which was suspended earlier this month after several players and support staff got affected by Covid-19 inside the bio-bubble. Sri Lanka, UAE and England are in the race to host the remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 as well. However, if the board plans to host the IPL after England series, they will get a two-week window to host the remaining 31 matches, which won’t be enough. Moreover, with the T20 World Cup taking place in India in the October-November window, there wouldn’t be enough time to host the cash-rich league later on as well. Image source by twitter

  2. However, now, BCCI and ECB are discussing the possibility to cut short the five-match Test series. If the series is shortened and ECB want to host the IPL 2021, then the rest of the games might get a window. The Times of India quoted a source saying “BCCI and the ECB are in discussions to tweak the five-Test series. Details of those discussions aren’t public yet. But in whichever manner the ECB agrees to tweak the Test series, they will want the IPL in England because the counties can earn from it. There’ll be a good chance ofa quid pro quo.” “Only if costs are escalating to a point where it starts affecting stakeholders, the BCCI will consider the UAE as the second option for the IPL. On that front, we aren’t even discounting the idea of hosting the IPL in Sri Lanka,” the sources further added.
