Few recent happenings indicate the trends in education…… • ‘GRADEFLATION’ in Xth and XIIth Standard Board Examinations • CBSE Xth Std. pass percentage, year 2011: 98.6 • No. of students scoring more than 90%: 38377 (+248% over year 2010) • CBSE XIIth Std. pass percentage, year 2011: 81.71 • No. of students scoring more than 90%: 21665 (+31% over year 2010)

Few recent happenings indicate the trends in education…… • During the decade 2000 - 2010 • Increase in number of students passing out XIIth Std. is from 10 Lakh to 1 Cr. 10 Lakh (+1100%) • Increase in Universities 311 to 509 (+63%) • Increase in Colleges 15600 to 31000 (+99%) • For 54,000 seats in around 70 Delhi University colleges, estimated number of applications over 125,000 • 100% cut-off marks set by Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC)

Few recent happenings indicate the trends in education…… • In Assam for year 2011 • Total candidates in HSLC examination: 2,73,701 • Passed: 1,92,639 (70.1%) • IIIrd Division: 1,22,702 (64% of successful candidates) • Total candidates in Higher Secondary Examination: 2,25,634 • Candidates in Science Stream: 17,780 (7.9%)

Few recent happenings indicate the trends in education…… • In Manipur for year 2011 • Total candidates in HS examination: 22,483 • Passed: 17,014 (75.7%) • IIIrd Division: 1183 (7% of successful candidates) • Candidates in Science Stream: 12,060 (70.9%) • Candidates in Commerce Stream: 333 (1.9%)

Few recent happenings indicate the trends in education…… • Budgetary allocation for Education, Budget 2011: Rs.52,057 Crore (+24% Budget 2010) • "Our demographic dividend, a relatively younger population compared to developed countries, is as much of an opportunity as it is a challenge. Over 70 percent of India will be of working age by 2025. In this context universalising access to secondary education, increasing percentage of our scholars in higher education and providing skills training is necessary" : Mr. Pranab Mukherjee
