The Name “ASEAN” refers to “the Association of Southeast Asian Nations”. • It is a geo-political and economic organization of ten countries located in Southeast Asia, which was formed on 8 August 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.Since then, membership has expanded to include Brunei,Burma(Myanmar), Cambodia , Laos, and Vietnam. ASEAN

  3. The main purpose includes The acceleration of economic growth, social progress, cultural development among its members, the protection of the peace and stability of the region, and to provide opportunities for member countries to discuss differences peacefully. ASEAN

ASEAN Declaration, the aims and purposes • To accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavours in the spirit of equality and partnership in order to strengthen the foundation for a prosperous and peaceful community of Southeast Asian Nations; • To promote regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law in the relationship among countries of the region and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter;

  5. To promote active collaboration and mutual assistance on matters of common interest in the economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific and administrative fields; • To provide assistance to each other in the form of training and research facilities in the educational, professional, technical and administrative spheres; • To collaborate more effectively for the greater utilisation of their agriculture and industries, the expansion of their trade, including the study of the problems of international commodity trade, the improvement of their transportation and communications facilities and the raising of the living standards of their peoples;

  6. To promote Southeast Asian studies; and • To maintain close and beneficial cooperation with existing international and regional organisationswith similar aims and purposes, and explore all avenues for even closer cooperation among themselves.

  7. ASEAN Flag The ASEAN Flag represents a stable, peaceful, united and dynamic ASEAN. Red depicts courage and dynamism. Blue represents peace and stability. Yellow symbolises prosperity. White shows purity. ASEAN

  8. English is the only official language in ASEAN. It is also the most widely used language in the world. ASEAN

ASEAN Vision 2020 • ASEAN shall have, by the year 2020, established a peaceful and stable Southeast Asia where each nation is at peace with itself and where the causes for conflict have been eliminated, through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law and through the strengthening of national and regional resilience. ASEAN

  11. ASEAN Community • ASEAN Political-Security Community – APSC • ASEAN Economic Community – AEC • ASEAN Socio–cultural Community - ASCC ASEAN

  12. ASEAN Political-Security Community The APSC shall aim to ensure that countries in the region live at peace with one another and with the world in a just, democratic harmonious environment. ASEAN

  13. ASEAN Economic Community • AEC envisages the following key characteristics: • a single market and production base • a highly competitive economic region • a region of equitable economic development • a region fully integrated into the global economy ASEAN

  14. ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community The ASEAN Socio - Cultural Community Plan of Action is formulated to:  1) support the caring societies  2) deal with social impact caused by economic integration ASEAN

  15. 3) promote sustainable and proper environmental management 4) improve better understanding among grass-roots people on historical and cultural awareness and access to information which is fundamental to a successful ASEAN Community. ASEAN

  16. Accept and respect diversity (religious, language, culture) • Attitude toward neighboring countries • Share culture and identity • Boost up human security • ASEAN watch Social and cultural aspect

  17. Avoid wearing yellow cloth (King color) • Women should not laugh too loud • No selling alcohol in public place Do and don’t -Brunei Darussalam

  19. Do and don’t - Lao • Do not make joke with their language, culture • Avoid the issue of politic • Hug and kiss in public places are impolite behavior • Having weapon and drug will put to death Do and don’t -Malaysia

  20. No taking photo (military / government places) • pacify behavior when go to temple • Women is not allow entering in some temple area Do and don’t - Myanmar

  21. Focus only on AEC • Not (try to) understand the meaning of diversity • Not concern on equality and humanity Weak point of Thai country
