  4. What do you think? • Do you think it is true? • Have you accomplished these expectations? Why or why not? • Can you lead a “happy” and a “successful” life and not accomplish these things? • How do you define “success” or “happiness”?

  6. Comparatives/Superlatives • Comparatives- When you are comparing two things at the same time. • “Er” • Examples: Mary is taller than John. John is shorter than Mary.

  7. Comparatives/Superlatives • Superlatives- When you are comparing more than two things at the same time. • “Est” • Examples: Suzanne is the smartest person I know. Koreans are the kindest people I’ve met. My dog is the biggest dog in the neighborhood.

  8. Comprehension Questions • Lorraine Ali cited some studies talking about feelings of happiness after the birth of a child. What were some of the results from the studies? How have some people reacted to the studies (see paragraphs 4 and 5)? Why do you think they reacted that way? 2. In paragraph 6, Lorraine Ali described the history of some reasons why people were having children. Why were Americans having children in pre-industrial America? Why are Americans having children now? Are there any differences between now and the past? Is so, why do you think there are differences?
