  1. Web page for this FG http://virbo.org/wiki/ index.php/GEMFG9 • Links to email list • Links to notes from past meetings

  2. GEM 2007 ViRBOThe Virtual Radiation Belt ObservatoryStatusBob Weigel 26 June 2008, GEM Radiation Belt Climatology FG Zermatt Resort, Utah

  3. People Software * Eric Kihn (NOAA/NGDC, ViRBO Web and API) * Mikhail Zhizhin (RFO, ViRBO Web and API) * Jeremy Faden (Cottage Systems, Autoplot) * Doug Lindholm (LASP, VxOware) Data * Dan Baker (CU/LASP, Data and metadata) * Sebastian Boudier (Onera, Data calibration) * Janet Green (NOAA/SEC, Data and metadata) * Shri Kanekal (CU/LASP, Data and metadata) * Reiner Friedel (LANL, Data and calibration) * Paul O'Brien (Aerospace, Data and metadata)

  4. What is a VxO? A VO is a service that unites services and/or multiple data providers, with a "VxO" doing this for community "x."

  5. Outline • A GEM Radiation Belt Climatology Focus Group Data Set • What we are working on

  6. A GEM Radiation Belt Climatology Focus Group Data Set • Based on GEM 2007 requests. Merged files in .mat and .cdf format. • Qin-Denton Tsyganenko magnetic field model inputs (1-hour resolution) • Augsburg/MACCS ULF index (1-hour) • O’Brien-Lemon reanalysis data set (1-hour) • Kanekal SAMPEX MeV electron flux (1-day with 1-hour pending) • Ridley-Kihn AMIE-derived indices (1-min – available soon) • ??? • http://virbo.org/wiki/index.php/FG9_Data • This URL will be sent to the FG9 email list

  7. What we are working on • Creating a comprehensive list of RB- related resources and data • Making previously unavailable data available via ftp “as-is” • Improving on ease-of-use and accessibility of “as-is” existing data • Developing metadata so that other VxO’s can find our resources in a search • Developing new RB products • Uniting resources

  8. What we are working on • Creating a comprehensive list of RB- related resources and data The http://virbo.org development page contain notes. If something is missing, please let me know.

  9. What we are working on • Making previously unavailable data available via ftp “as-is” • New data sets include Polar, LANL GEO, SCATHA, OV33, OV119, HEO-1, HEO-3

  10. What we are working on • Improving on ease-of-use and accessibility of “as-is” existing data • In July, we will release 2-second NOAA-15, 16, 17, 02 in standard CDF format • In August we will release SAMPEX high-resolution data sets in standard CDF format • HEO-1 and HEO-3 will follow Eventually, you will have other ways to access these data (calls from IDL or Matlab and web interface)

  11. What we are working on • Developing metadata so that other VxO’s can find our resources in a search

  12. What we are working on • Developing new RB products • Pre-computed L, L* for a wide range of field models

  13. What we are working on • Uniting resources
