Module Descriptor • Purpose of module - to develop an in-depth knowledge of generic commercial software applications. • To be able to use: • Word Processing Software • Spreadsheets • Databases • Presentation software • Learning materials required – Computer Microsoft Office Created by Janet NicholsModified by Ivailo Chakarov

Purpose/Assessment of Module • To give students an overall grounding in the use of common PC applications in solving business problems • The course will consist of lectures and practical sessions over 12 weeks • Assessment will be through 2 assignments • Assessment 1 – production of a spreadsheet and report • Assessment 2 – creation of a database and associated documentation and the delivery of a presentation. Databases (Access) An organised collection of related data Allows: - • integrated files • reduced redundancy • shared data • centralised security • easy filing & retrieval Useful for storing large amounts of data in an organised manner.
