  1. True Confession of Charlotte Doyle • Peter Kim 8B

  2. Charlotte Doyle • Charlotte Doyle is a 13 year old girl who was educated well and is a well-groomed girl. She wears long skirt and white gloves. She has a long beautiful hair. She is not yet a lady, but treated as if she is, and she doesn’t deny it. She is described to be well educated. The crew member address her as miss, instead of calling her Charlotte. She couldn’t believe she was going through this mess; she cried in the beginning.” I burst into tears of vexation, crying with fear, rage, and humliation. She wasn’t used to these conditions. However, she looses her women characteristics as she gets disappointed and shocked in Captain Jaggery’s behavior. She joins the crew, wearing pants and shirt, with a short hair. Captain Jaggery has described her as the unnatural one as she joined the crew. He says,” No, it must be someone from outside, unnatural one,”. Although Charlotte reaches her home, she goes back to the ship, to meet the crew once again.

  3. Seahawk • Sea hawk is the ship’s name that Charlotte is aboard on. Captain Jaggery is the one who is controlling it. Sea hawk is a American ship, a merchandise. It is not a huge and magnificent ship, but it’s purpose is great. Captain Jaggery said,”-is not designed for comfort, but for commerce, for making money,”. Charlotte described as how the ship shows their emotion,”-I was struck by the notion that this figure looked more like an angry, avenging angel than a docile bird.”

  4. Mr. Grummage • He is a impatient old man who is the guardian of Charlotte Doyle. He seemed little impatient when Charlotte was asking about the ship and when she complained about how she will be traveling as the only girl. Charlotte described her as a ‘gentleman’. She said,” Mr. Grummage, like my father, a gentleman,”. He also follows the order very cleary; he said,”-your father left orders that you were to travel on this ship at this time. I’ve very specific written orders in that regard,”.

  5. Captain Jaggery • Mr. Jaggery is the captain of the Seahawk. He is a described as a gentleman by Charlotte in the beginning. “In short, a man to whom I could talk and upon whom I could rely,”. She thought he was a nice man who had behaved in mannerly order. However, once Jaggery discovers the mutiny, he has become violent and killed a crew member. He constantly bugs Charlotte to watch for her mistakes. The crew member do not like him because he had beaten one of the member almost to death. He is shown to have absolute power. Zachariah says,” But Andrew Jaggery could find not one other jack to sign with the Sea hawk. They were all warned away,”.

  6. Zachariah • Zachariah is a black sailor who was on the Seahawk for a long time. He had serving as a cook, surgeon, sailor, priest and so on. He is one of the man that is being very nice to Charlotte. He gave her a dirk for her safety. He is described physically not well. Charlotte says,”His arms and legs were as thin as marlinspikes. His face, as wrinkled as a crumpled napkin, was flecked with the stubble of white beard.” He begged to Charlotte to keep the dirk for her saftey. “Miss Doyle, I beg of you-keep it there still,”.

  7. Keetch • Mr. Keetch is the second mate of the ship. He was the man who had fetched Charlotte to the ship. He is described as,”His darting, unfocused eyes, set deep in a narrow ferret like face, gave the impression of one who is constantly on watch for threats-”. She doesn’t entirely trust this man. Later it turns out that it was Keetch that had given all the information to the captain about the crew member. Jaggery states,”Who, from start, kept me well informed about the crew,”. After Jaggery’s death, Keetch later is forgiven and spared once he starts to beg for life.
