Short History(1): MECIPT RESEARCH CENTER • 1960 - MECIPT Research Center in computers is set up in Politehnic Institute of Timisoara • 1961 - MECIPT-1 the First Digital Computer build in a university in Romania. MECIPT-1 was a 1-th generation computer with advanced features (microprogramming). The initiators: I.Kaufmann, W.Lovenfeld, M.Fildan • 1963 - MECIPT-2(2-nd generation computer) first computer used for CAD applications in research Centers in Timisoara and Bucharest • 1965 - MECIPT-3 (3-rd generation computer)

Short History(2): • 1963 - First “Digital Computers” Course in Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Timisoara • 1964 - First group of students in “Digital Computers” is set up • 1964 - Computers Chair is set up. The first Head: prof.dr.ing. Alexandru Rogojan • 1966 - First graduates specialized in “Digital Computers” • 1966 - The first Romanian “Digital Computers” program is set up in Timisoara. The initiator: prof.dr.ing. Alexandru Rogojan • 1971- First graduates (engineers) in “Digital Computers” • 1990 - Faculty of Automation and Computers is set up • 1996 - Computers Chair becomes Computer & Software Engineering Dept

  4. Short History(3) : COMPUTERS CHAIR • 1962 - First Serial Adder built with electronics tubes • 1963 - Researches and achievements in domain of ferrite core memory. First Romanian experimental ferrite memory • 1967- First national technology for producing ferrite memories • 1973 - CETA(2-nd generation computer) developed in educational purposes • 1975 - Testing equipments design and implementation. Testing School is set up in Timisoara • 1976 - Micro Computer for teaching applications • 1976 – Computing Center of Politechnic Institute of Timisoara is set up

  5. Short History(4): COMPUTERS CHAIR • 1979 – Process Computer(3-rd generation) for power suppliers testing. First industrial application at ELBA company • 1980 – PETRICA autonomous robot based on a microprocessor system. Prize of the Romanian Academy • 1982 – Researches and achievements in the field of MiniOperating Systems, MonitorsandReal-Time Executives • 1983 – First implementation in Romania of a Concurrent PascalCompiler • 1984 – Starts the design and implementation of the TIM-S personal computer family. These were produced at industrial level since 1990 at ITC Timişoara • 1984 – First Romanian Pascal Compilerdevelopedfor FELIX platform of Romanian computers • 1986-CETA-16 3-rd Generation Computer developed for educational purposes

  6. Our mission: The mission of our “Computers” Program is to produce high qualified IT engineers with both hardware and software knowledge. Our graduates have thecompetence and the abilitiestodesign, develop, implement and update computing systems and equipments, microprocessors and micro-controller based systems, operating systems and software applications for different domains. We pay a special attentiontodevelop the research abilities of our graduates
