  2. Slide 2 • Welcome to Hina and Vanessa’s Power Point Presentation. This term we are doing Natural disaster. We had to chose a Natural Disaster and we have chosen Volcanoes.

  3. Slide 3 • A. volcano is a landform (usually a mountain) where molten rock erupts through the surface of the planet. • In simple terms a volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock (magma) below the surface of the earth. It is a hole in the Earth from which molten rock and gas erupt.

  4. Slide 4 • A.A volcano is formed when plates hit each other. One of the plates goes under the other. This is where the earth heats and melts the rock into magma and gases. This can happen as deep as 100 miles below the earth. Magma settles in pools or chambers near the surface. This is where eruptions take place. • Volcanoes can also be formed when the plates go away from each other. The magma pushes up and lava forms. These types of volcanoes are found on the ocean floor.

  5. Slide 5 • Lava is molten rock, or magma, appearing on the surface.

  6. Slide 6 • A.A volcano erupts when pressure on the magma chamber causes the magma to rise and come out together with gas, rocks and ashes. • Sometimes they are caused by earthquakes.

  7. Slide 7 • A.Volcanoes are found all over the world. Some are found in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Volcanoes are not just on land, they are also underwater. The most famous of the volcanoes is the one inyellow stone national park which is a super volcano.
