  2. NEGLECTING SALAAT

  3. The book on hadith mention very severe punishment for those who neglect their salaat. From many traditions on the subject, only a few are going to be seen by us in this presentation. Although a single warning from the most truthful Prophet (s.a.w) was enough, yet we find that, out of love and mercy for his followers, he has cautioned them again and again and in various manners lest they should neglect salaat and suffer the consequences. In spite of all this, alas! We are unmindful of salaat, and still we have the audacity to consider ourselves devotees of the holy Prophet (s.a.w) and champions of Islam.

  4. Hadhrat Jaabir bin Abdullah (r.a) narrates that he heard the Prophet of Allah (s.a.w) saying : • “To disregard Salaat is to be linked with Kufr (disbelieve).” • “To disregard Salaat is to be linked with Kufr and Shirk.” • “Discarding of Salaat is the only partition between Iman and Kufr.”

  5. There are a number of Hadith on this subject. On one occasion, the holy Prophet (s.a.w) is reported to have said : “Hurry up with your Salaat when it is cloudy (lest you should err and miss the correct time), for to discard Salaat is to become a kaafir. ” What a stern warning against even missing the correct time of Salaat, as (according to the quotation above) to miss the correct time of Salaat is to discard it.

  6. Hadhrat Naufil bin Mu’aawiyah (r.a) narrates that he heard the Prophet (s.a.w) saying, “A person who has missed one Salaat is like one who lost all his family and wealth.” Ibn Abbas (r.a) narrates that he heard the Prophet (s.a.w) saying, “A person who combines two Salaat without any strong excuse reaches one of the doors of Kabaa’ir (major sins).” Abdullah bin Amar (r.a) narrates that once the holy Prophet (s.a.w) while talking about Salaat said: “For its votary, Salaat shall on the Day of Judgement, be a light for him, an argument in his favour, and a means of his deliverance. Whereas there will be no light, no defence and no deliverance from doom for him who does not guard his Salaat, and he shall meet the fate of Pharoah, Haamaan and Ubbay bin Khalaf.”

  7. It is said in a Hadith that, Allah bestows five favors on a person who is mindful of his Salaat. • His daily bread is made easy for him. • He is saved from the punishment in the grave. • He shall receive his record book in his right hand on the day of Judgement. • He shall cross the Siraat with the speed of lightning. • And he shall enter paradise without reckoning.

  8. As for him who neglects his Salaat, he shall meet five types of punishments in this world, three at the time of death, three in the grave and three after resurrection. • Those in this world are : • He is not blessed in life • He is deprived of light with which the faces of the righteous are endowed • He receives no rewards for his good practices • His prayers not answered • And he has no share in the prayer of the pious.

  9. Those at the time of death are : • He dies disgracefully • He dies in hunger • And he dies in thirst ; which the water in the oceans of the world cannot quench.

  10. Those in the grave are : • He’ll be squeezed that the ribs of one side penetrate into the ribs of the other side • Fire is burnt inside him and he is rolled on cinders, day and night • A serpent with fiery eyes and iron nails equal in length to a day’s journey is let loose on him and shouts with a thundering voice, ‘My Lord has charged me with thrashing you till sunrise for neglecting Fajr, till Asr for neglecting Zuhur, till sunset for neglecting Asr, till Ishaa for neglecting Maghrib and till dawn for neglecting Ishaa.’ The serpent will keep on thrashing him thus till the Last Day. Each blow pushes him to a depth of seventy arm’s length. The punishments will last till the Day of Judgement.

  11. Those after resurrection are : • His reckoning will be a hard one • Allah will be angry with him • And he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire. According to one report, he will have following three lines inscribed on his forehead : ‘O you who neglected Allah’s duty’ ‘O you who has deserved Allah’s wrath’ ‘Now despair of Allah’s mercy, as you neglected our duty to Allah.’

  12. The Prophet (s.a.w) is reported to have said, “A person neglecting his Salaat (even though he makes it up later) shall remain in Hell for a period of one Haqd. A haqd is equal to eighty years of three hundred and sixty days each. And a day in the Hereafter is equal to one thousand years in this world.” Hence according to the Hadith above : Missing one prayer = 80 years of hell fire 80 years of Hell Fire = 1000 X 360 X 80 = 28 800 000 earthly years Therefore, Neglecting just ONE fardhu Salaat, (nau’dhubillah min ha), we’ll end up in Hell Fire for 28 800 000 earthly years. So beloved brothers and sisters, ask yourself if its worth it…. So next time you want to miss a prayer, better think twice ok !!

  13. “ So woe to the worshippers Who are neglectful of their prayers ” [ Qur’an 107 : 4-5 ]

  14. “ The fist of his actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayers. If they are in order, then he will have prospered and succeeded: and if they are wanting, then he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers, the Lord (glorified and exalted be He) will say: See if My servant has any supererogatory prayers with which may be completed that which was defective in his obligatory prayers. Then the rest of his actions will be judged in like fashion. ” [ Hadith - Qudsi 9 ]

  15. “ And enjoin Salaat upon the people and be constant therein. We ask not of thee a provision. We provide for thee. And the Hereafter is for the Righteousness. ” [ Qur’an 20 : 132 ] “ And truly Salaat is hard except for the humble minded; Who know that they have to meet their Lord, And that unto Him they are returning. ” [ Qur’an 2 : 45-46 ]

  16. “ My Lord ! Make me to establish Salaat, and some of my posterity (also) ;Our Lord ! And accept the prayer.” [ Qur’an 14 : 40 ]

  17. The End (of neglecting Salaat, inshallah)
