Futurelink Counsel for Adult Experimental Learning (CAEL) the contractor for on-site futurelink services and VZ Tuition Assistance Purpose is for Career Transition Development and Educational Development Helping associates make career decisions transitioning to new careers internally within Verizon or out of Verizon, through EISP or retirement

Counsel for Adult Experimental Learning • At CAEL, the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning, we deliver a comprehensive set of Career and Educational Advising Services designed to link employee learning to company goals, developing your workforce knowledge while helping to increase productivity, boost morale, and improve recruitment and retention efforts. • CAEL is a non-profit organization committed to providing adults with better access to education and training, all of which help union members lead happy, successful and fulfilling lives.

CAEL How CAEL Career and Education Advising Works: • CAEL works with the company to communicate the availability of career and education advising, either through group meetings, payroll flyers or career fairs. • Through on-site meetings, one-on-one phone calls or via the internet, employees discuss their interests and goals with one of nearly 18 professional CAEL career and education advisors located nationwide. • Advisors then work with employees to develop career or educational plans to achieve their goals, administer skill or interest assessments, and/or assist employees to document their prior learning for possible college credit. • CAEL professional advisors can then conduct follow-up meetings as necessary to ensure employees stay on track with their outlined goals.

CAEL VZ TAP- • CAEL career and education advising works best when paired with an existing company tuition assistance or training program by either reducing overall costs or increasing participation in the program. Tuition assistance funds, such as those managed for the company through CAEL's Tuition Assistance Management Service (TAMS), can be used to pay for career and education advising.

  12. Career assessments 1) DiSC Assessment: DiSC explores your behavior, how you interact with others, and what motivates you. Receive a 16 page personalized report that will help you learn more about your unique strengths and weaknesses. (Two, ½-hr. sessions) 2) Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: Complete the popular Myers-Briggs assessment to help you understand what your unique personality type says about how you communicate, learn, and work. Explore how to use this self-knowledge. (1 hour) 3) Learning Style Inventory:Would you do better in a classroom or online? Results of this assessment tool can help you determine which methods of learning are right for you. 4) Self-Directed Search: Can’t decide what you want to be when you grow up? Identify specific career titles that might be appropriate for you and how you can learn more about them. (1 hr.) 5) Strong Interest Inventory: Gain knowledge of the kinds of professions, activities, and people you prefer and explore how to apply this knowledge as you plan career goals. (Two, ½-hr. sessions) 6) Values Assessment: Identify what it is you value in your career and explore the relationship between the values you've expressed and your current and future career choices. (½-hr. session) 7)Interest and MBTI combined assessment understanding of career interests and personality job matches

  13. Career Planning • What’s Next for My Career? • 17) Accelerated Career Planning: This 3½ hour session helps you jumpstart your efforts to make a change in your career. Using several fun and easy assessments, you’ll create a plan for your future based on your values, skills, abilities, and interests. • 18) Career Planning Overview: This session introduces you to the process of career planning. Assess your values and skills and learn about the many FutureLink services available to make your career plan a reality. (1 hour) • 19) Creating My Career Plan: Think you’re ready to make a career move? This session guides you through the creation of your career action plan, making the best use of your time and resources. Review the current job market to identify employment opportunities that are right for you. (1 hour) • 20) Career Planning for the 40+ Crowd:Learn to gain the confidence and knowledge to pursue a new career. Explore a career that is in line with your priorities and will better prepare you for your retirement. (1 hour) • Testing At Verizon: Explore the role of standardized testing within the Verizon job selection process. What tests do you need to take to apply for certain positions?

  14. Education Focus • Learning & Taking Classes • 8) Creating My Education Plan:When returning to school, there are many factors to consider. Learn how to identify the best method to reach your education goals. • 9) Distance Learning: Determine whether you have the aptitude to succeed with distance learning. • (1 hour) • 10) Education Destination: Learn how to avoid getting lured into taking classes that frustrate you and waste your time and money. (One ½ session.) • 11). Finding the School That Meets My Needs: Explore the pros and cons of different education options. (1 hour) • 12) Give Credit Where It's Due: (Prior Learning Assessment) Learn how to get a college degree by evaluate learning that you have achieved through work, education, training, and life to determine what can be turned into college credit. (One 2-hr. session or two 1-hr. sessions.) • 13) Setting My Goals For Learning: Learn how to set realistic goals for learning and gain the ability to identify potential obstacles and find out how to overcome them. (1 hour) • 14)Online Math – A New Approach to Success with Numbers: An Orientation to ALEKS: This orientation provides information about ALEKS NetTutor, an innovative way to strengthen math skills. • 15) CLEP Prep: provides participants with the tools to attain college credit through completion of a CLEP exam in one of 30 or more areas. • 16) Major Focus- Deciding on the right college major prevents you from wasting time and energy on courses you do not like and could fail at. help deciding on a college major to study.

  15. Career Transition workshops • 23) Writing My Resume: Resume Writing is designed to assist those who already have an understanding of the resume writing process. Your advisor will review the basic concepts, such as formats, the "do's" and "don'ts," and the fine points of writing a cover letter. Take Intensive Resume Writing, which is offered as a 3 hr. session or three 1 hr. sessions; if you have never prepared a resume, or have very limited knowledge of the process. (1 or 3 hours) • 24) Building My Interviewing Skills: Learn to prepare for an interview by reviewing different interview formats and techniques to handle a variety of questions. Practice what you learn and receive coaching from your advisor. (1 hour session) or ……..take the Intensive Interviewing workshop if you want more extensive assistance and support. (Intensive Interviewing is offered as a 3-hr. session or three 1- hr. sessions.) • 25) Networking to New Opportunities: Find out how to develop and utilize an effective personal network that will help you achieve you find get career. Practice Informational Interviewing techniques that can help open doors and increase your contacts. (1 hour) • 26) Exploring Technical Careers: Using Technical Skills to Your Advantage: Discover how to identify jobs that exist for someone with your skills and interests. Receive information about job opportunities and how to find them. (2 hours) • 27) Make time for education: Develop strategies for finding time for your education.

  16. Personal Development • 28) Emotional Intelligence: Skill and technical know-how are important for any job, but you also need to know how to relate to people. This session will help you improve your awareness of your own EI and ways you can enhance it to improve your work and personal relationships. (1 hour) • 29) It's Your Move! (Motivational):Discover the basic principles for personal success and begin to focus on ways to help you get and stay motivated to take charge of your career and life. (½-hr session) • 30) Organizing Your Life: Find the time you need to get everything done! Improve your ability to manage tasks by learning to prioritize goals and apply time management skills to every aspect of your life. (1 hour) • 31) Learning to Deal with Change in the Workplace: Deal with change in a positive way, by identifying opportunities for personal and professional growth.Learn how change can be beneficial to you. • 32) Can We Talk? (Communications)Join this fun, interactive workshop to improve your verbal communication, presentation, selling and conflict resolution skills.
