According to the Australian Resources and Energy Group, the resources and energy sector is going to need 24,400 plus new workers by 2026 to support up to 98 new projects in the pipeline. • The report states that the most in-demand occupation will be plant operators, diesel fitters, engineers, geologists and other technical roles. • Here’s a snapshot of just some of the major projects helping fuel this jobs booms that have recently been announced: AUSTRALIA’S FIRST OFFSHORE WIND FARM • Our first offshore wind farm is set to provide about 8000 jobs in Victoria over 30 years, including 5200 construction jobs. • The wind farm is set to be built off the coast of South Gippsland, investing $4.9 billion into the Victorian economy. • This wind farm is predicted to provide about 20 percent of Victoria’s energy and power 1.8 million homes.

HIGH-GRADE KAOLIN SITE IN WA • The Wickepin Kaolin Project, near Perth, Western Australia, is set to be one of the largest premium primary sources of kaolin in the world. • It’s expected to produce kaolin products for many markets including paper. Building works began in January 2021 with $42 million invested into the project.

  4. NEWCREST MINING FUNDS HAVIERON GOLD-COPPER PROJECT • $146 million in funding for initial works at Newcrest Mining’s Havieron gold-copper project has been approved. This project is a joint venture with London-listed Greatland Gold. • Approval will see work start on the construction of a box cut, exploration decline and supporting infrastructures.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA TO DELIVER 30,000 JOBS • The South Australian Government has committed to delivering up to 30,000 jobs to the state by 2030 across nine priority sectors including mining and energy. • South Australia is home to 300 mines and quarries. WA SPEEDS UP PROJECT APPROVALS • Western Australian Government has invested $1.6 million to cut application wait times for major resource projects, leading to almost 18,300 new construction jobs. • The Government stated that expansions of gold and iron ore sectors were key in driving WA’s reputation as an attractive and safe destination for resource investment.
